I Have No Update

Today I update to let you know that ....well, I have no update.

At least not the update I wanted to have.  You know, the one where I could say I got $185.00 worth of groceries and only spent $35.00!

Truth is, I stink at this.

I gathered my enormously embarrassing binder and all my sale papers and headed out with good intentions and visions of a success story.

I never even got out of the car.

Laugh, evil ones.  But I'm serious!

I got so anxious about messing up and what if I used the wrong one and what if they told me no and what if I dropped my enormously embarrassing binder and all the coupons fell out and what if someone got mad because I was too slow and etc etc etc.  Yeah, I know....I need serious help.

But I've decided that I am giving myself grace, and a little more grace.

I cannot start out as Super Shopper who saves 75% on her groceries (Although I want to).

For now, I am going to start out slow and use as many coupons as I'm comfortable with.

This is hard work!  And stressful.  (Remember...recovering mental perfectionist here).

At least I'm being honest.  That should count for something, right?

Oh, this site is not just about coupons (thankfully), it's about being frugal and finding good deals universally, so let me just brag about my cute little black dress I got on clearance for $16.99!  Yep.  It's for next weekend, so I'll upload pics after the dinner cruise. :)

Wow....feels good to get all that out.

All you super shoppers who have it all together out there, don't judge me.

After all, I did get a dress for $16.99.

Making Progress....Sorta

I am finding out that this coupon thing is a LOT of work.

But, I am making a lil' progress ;)

Not much.

A lil'.

Meaning, I have put my coupons in their little baseball card slots.  However, I got a whole stack of new ones last night that now need to be cut, sorted and put in my binder.

WHAT.

A.

CHORE.

I'm thinking in order to be successful at this coupon thing, a few things need to happen:
  • I need to set aside one day a week to clip, organize and plan.
  • DON'T stress out about which category the coupons go in. (Don't ask, I'll save that one for another post.....)
  • Must be consistent.
Any suggestions out there in the great big blogosphere?

I Confess

OK....I confess.

My coupons are still sitting there.

(Disclaimer:  I warned you this probably wouldn't be the perfect, happy all the time, do everything I'm supposed to do - kind of blog.)

Of course I haven't even gone to the store since my HEB excursion except to get sweet tea for cell group after church Sunday. ;)

After a discussion on facebook tonight prompted by this status update:  Trait #8 (of Benjamin Franklin's 13 Traits for Success): Quickness - Do all I need (or have) to do without wasting time (procrastination) and with maximum productivity per moment. Cut off all unnecessary actions. Focus

...I decided to post some great ideas offered by my friends!

Tina suggested visiting www.flylady.com .  I have been there before, but it's been a while and I don't remember what I read.  So I am going to go back and check her out.  Tina also said that Krogers is offering 10 cents off per gallon of gas from Shell for ever $100 spent (if you have a Kroger card).   Oh, I almost forgot....she said Food Fair has an in store coupon for FREE MILK right now!  I need milk.  Gotta check that out.

Cindy (apparently the pro and she's been holding out on us...) said to get organized we need a binder with baseball card sheets to insert our coupons (Tara and D also suggested this previously).  Cindy also encouraged us to go dumpster diving.  Yep.  You heard me.  What do you think they do with all those leftover papers on Sunday evenings?  Wait...is this legal?? :)  Seriously....anybody?  haha (nervous laugh.)  Another thing Cindy suggested was to stock up on any free items or super duper cheap stuff either for yourself or to give away.....great idea!  Also, she said Brookshire's is now offering double and triple values for coupons and CVS has great deals (I actually have a website for the 411 on CVS deals that I will post later...) And last but certainly not least from our professional couponer/dumpster diver....make your bargain hunting a Friday night date night....not a lot of shoppers at Kroger's on Friday nights (because everyone else is at Outback).

Remember my meal deal from HEB in my last post?  Teresa said Kroger's has something similar this week (or maybe every week?).  Buy sausage and get FREE diced onions, Kroger buns, potato salad, Gladware food storage containers and pickles....make sure you get the right brand names (check the in store coupons).  With this deal (and your Kroger card) you will save $10.98!

Thanks girls!  Keep the advice coming!

So....., I really need to organize those coupons....Saturday I bought a new binder at a church yard sale for .25 cents!  Now, let's see if I can find those baseball card sheets......
